Shopping, dropping, baking and drawing!

My role as a Ward Area Coordinator (WAC) for the Wells Coronavirus Network (WCN) continues to keep me busy coordinating grocery shopping, prescription collections, and befriending telephone calls. Initially we delivered about 7000 leaflets to residences in Wells, advertising the WCN. A lot of demand has come from these leaflets, and we are organising a further 7000 cards, for anyone whose needs may have changed during lockdown. For example, this may include individuals who stockpiled at the start of lockdown, and are now running low on supplies, or individuals who have heard about the great work of the WCN and would like to use the services.

Volunteering provides an excellent excuse to get out of the house and see new faces, through delivering groceries to individuals. I do a weekly pickup from Storehouse Wells Foodbank and deliver it to one of the WCN's regular users. It has been lovely meeting both the users of the WCN, and the people who volunteer at charities such as Storehouse. They are providing an essential service during this period.

So far we have around 300 volunteers operating in various roles- a really fantastic response and a tribute to the strong tradition of volunteering in Wells!

On a personal note, aside from volunteering, I have been spending most of my time drawing, painting and cooking. I have set up a virtual baking group amongst friends, we each take turns picking a cake to make, and then have a zoom afternoon tea session. This week is St Clements cake! I have also been making cards for friends, so have included a photograph of this too!
